Not so wild about the Wild Things

So, I went to see Where the Wild Things Are. I loved the book as a child and the movie received rave reviews. What I wonder is: Why? It was pretty horrible. Sure, some of the monsters and costumes stayed true to the book but that was about it. It was a dark and twisty movie (to use Grey's Anatomy language). And the line that you kept waiting to hear (because you saw it five million times in the previews): "I could you eat you up I love you so." made me shake my head.

I could have walked out of the movie I hated it so.
